Grass-Finished Beef
At Sonrise Farms we raise and sell only 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef. Our cows are pasture-raised and finished — they spend their entire lives eating only grass.
Beef can be purchased by the individual, fozen cut in our farm store or in bulk quantities (quarters, halves, wholes, or bundles).
What is Grass-Finished Beef?
You’ve probably heard the terms grass-fed, pasture-raised, grain-finished, and grass-finished.
What's the difference? Does it even matter?
“Grass-fed” refers to what an animal eats (grass) while “pasture-raised” refers to where it eats (on a pasture).
So the logical question is, "But if pasture has grass on it, why isn’t a pasture-raised cow automatically a grass-fed cow?" Because a pasture-raised cow might be fed grain while still being on pasture.
To add another twist, a product may say “grass-fed” on the packaging, but the cow might have been “finished” on grain, meaning it ate grain during the last 2 or 3 months of its life.
Yes, this is all immensely confusing. What’s a consumer to do?

“I first began making a major shift in diet a few years back when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. We buy as much grass-fed meats as possible, along with organic foods, etc. Buying a 1/4 beef - as we are still meat lovers! - will afford us the clean foods we desire with a bit of a savings. ”
