Do you have rough, chapped and cracked hands? Do store bought lotions seem to disappear and never really moisturize or repair your skin?
I have struggled with both problems at different times in my life. Over the summer months, I was struggling with dry skin on my face even though I was using a dermatologist recommended store lotion. I decided to give tallow balm another try.
In the past I had used tallow balm, but I had run out so I just picked up the recommended lotion at the store. Once I started using tallow balm again, I couldn’t believe the difference. My dry skin went away and I felt like my skin tone improved and I even looked younger.
Tallow balms are not just a deeply penetrating moisturizers, but they also have an abundance of natural vitamins. Grass-fed tallow contains a wealth of vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with a large amount of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which is an essential fatty acid know for its skin-nourishing abilities, and abundantly present in grass-fed beef.
We sell two types of tallow balms/lotions made with grass-fed tallow in our farm store.
Heavenly Homemade Body Butter by Quinn is a creation of a sweet young lady from Hope, Illinois. Quinn Rademacher began making body butter using the tallow from her family’s grass-fed cattle for a youth craft show 3 years. She had heard of the benefits of tallow in skin care products so she set out to make a healthy body butter.
The lotion turned out creamy and luscious. In fact it looked so much like whipped cream that her unsuspecting father came over while she was whipping the body butter and took a taste of it! No worries, the ingredients (Grass-fed tallow, Cocoa butter, Shea butter, Coconut oil & Olive oil) are all edible.
Quinn and her family live on a small farm where they raise sheep, cows, chickens, and ducks. She is educated at home and enjoys gardening, softball, and volleyball.
Quinn’s body butter is a fantastic all over body lotion. I use it every day on my face, arms, and legs. It is light and creamy!
Sister’s Lotion Bar is another skin care product that we carry in our store . Our daughter, Elizabeth, created these lotion bars several years ago when she received beeswax from Pruiett Apiary. While researching uses of beeswax, she began to realize the importance of natural skin care products.
Since our skin is the largest organ of our bodies and absorbs everything that it comes in contact with, she decided that she needed to make lotion bars from food grade ingredients. Her lotion bars contain: Coconut Oil, Grass-fed tallow, Shea Butter & Beeswax.
The lotion bar is a little different than typical lotions. It is firm and needs the heat from your body to make it soften enough to rub on. Elizabeth works outside a lot and loves using it on her rough, cracked hands and dry lips. The beeswax makes the lotion adhere to the skin so it last longer than a lighter lotion.
Elizabeth is employed here at Sonrise Farms where she does a multitude of jobs, but her main focus is livestock care. For the last 3 years, she has been milking a Jersey cow for our family and is currently in the process of setting up a herdshare so that other families can enjoy the benefits of fresh milk.
Well, I’m officially a major fan of tallow lotions for life. I think I’ve finally hit the skincare regimen jackpot using body butter as a general moisturizer and a lotion bar for my hands, feet and lips. My skin hasn’t felt this soft and supple since, well, ever!
