You can make homemade pizza in less than an hour!
This recipe is perfect for the novice baker, kids, or anyone who wants delicious, homemade pizza fast!
The secret to this recipe is Janie’s Mill Italian Style Pizza Flour. It makes an amazing light, airy crust with a slightly chewy texture.
Yield: Makes 2 large or 4 smaller pizzas
Ingredients
2 cups warm water
2 Tablespoons yeast
1 tsp honey
1 tsp salt
5 Tablespoons fat (olive oil, tallow, lard)
5-6 cups Janie’s Mill Italian Style Pizza Flour
Pizza toppings of your choice
Directions
Stir together water, yeast, honey, salt and fat in a mixing bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes or until it is foamy and bubbly.
Add the 5 cups of flour to the mixture. You can mix by hand or use a stand mixer with dough hook attachment. Either way, knead dough until smooth with a firm, but not stiff consistency. You many need to add additional flour to the initial 5 cups to achieve the desired consistency, but do so only 1-2 tablespoons at a time.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or kitchen towel, and let rise for 30 minutes.
Divide dough and form into crusts. This can be done by rolling or stretching the dough 1/4” to 1/2” thick on a well floured surface. The thickness depends on how you like your crust. Our preferred method is forming rough circles by pushing and stretching the dough with our finger tips on floured parchment paper.
Top your crust with whatever you and your family or friends enjoy!
Baking
There are so many ways to bake or grill a pizza. The easiest and most common method is to place the crust on a pizza pan, add the toppings, and slide it into a 400-475 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. In our home, we us a pizza steel and heat our oven to 500 degrees. This recipe is super flexible and can be used for any method of baking/cooking/grilling that you like.
