For over 20 years we only sold whole chickens, but this past year with the opening of our new store we began selling frozen cuts of chicken. Every time I opened the freezer I saw those big beautiful chicken wings. For some reason, I found them fascinating and irresistible. I began a quest to find the perfect chicken wing recipe.
Have you ever been stumped by a particular cut of meat? That is what happened with me and the chicken wings. First, I tried using a rub and smoking them which yielded very poor results. After many other attempts, some of which were awful, some were so-so, and others were nearly inedible, I grew determined that I was going to conquer chicken wing preparation or die trying! Okay, maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but some things in life just get you “fired up.”
Well, after weeks of “wrestling” with chicken wings, I finally came up with a method that consistently yielded tasty results. They are just a little sweet and a little spicy.
Come on into my kitchen and join me as I show you step by step how to make these delicious barbecued chicken wings.
Healthy BBQ Chicken Wings
Ingredients
3-4 lbs pasture-raised chicken wings
2 cups BBQ sauce (low sugar)
2 tsp mustard
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 - 1 tsp chipolte pepper (depends how hot you like your sauce)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Turn the broiler to high or oven to 450 F
Place chicken wings on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper then flip and sprinkle the other side with salt and pepper.
Broil on high 10 minutes then flip the wings and broil another 10 minutes.
Place the remaining ingredients for the sauce in a slow cooker and stir together.
Transfer the chicken wings to the crockpot and coat liberally with the sauce.
Cook on low 4-6 hours or high 2-3 hours.
